Well, the doctor has given the green light for me to resume "normal activity" with the only restriction that I am not to lift anything weighing more than "10 or 15 pounds" for the next five weeks. I'll manage, I guess, unless someone offers me a real deal on a large locomotive at the National Summer Steamup.
Got to say that the my convalescence has been less trouble than I expected. Of course I've been staying off ladders and not grubbing around in the garage much, even when the Boss is not around. Sudden and unplanned movements can be painful. Getting in and out of my low-to-the-ground car requires planning. Driving my stick shift truck is out of the question. The hospital treated me well. After I was admitted and the IV was going in, a nurse asked politely for my name and why I was there. And which side will the surgeon repair? My response was, "I have a scheduled appointment to get this done. Don't you people ever write anything down?" Actually that was not my response, and I did appreciate their thoroughness to double check everything. Speaking of the National Summer Steamup, I plan to bring along a couple of stacks of old Narrow Gauge and Shortline Gazette magazines and even older Model Railroader and Railroad Model Craftsman magazines. I got them to research narrow gauge locos and rolling stock. They will be free to whoever wants them, or just read them, enjoy, and pass them along. Lots of great plans and old photos.
