Hi,
Fema had a few cases of distilled water left over when they pulled out of
Naples last year, and I saved us taxpayers the expense of hauling the water
back to their home base, then storing it till the next time they had a call for
emergency water. I now store it on the shelves under my steam up area. The
water is obviously at or near ambient outdoor temp.
A garage sale provided a great addition to my Ga. 1 steam operation. A "Crock
Pot", even with lid, is now an integral part of the winter operation -for $1.00.
A Crock Pot is about 6" deep, so I put a little over 2" of tap water in the pot
and gently lower a full gallon of "FEMA" distilled water into the pot till a
little bit of 'pot' water appears at the top of the crock. Plug it in, turn on
the control, and in a short time the gallon of distilled water will be nice and
warm - maybe even hot. You can transferr the water to the tender, or to a mega
syringe to put the hot water into the boiler, or pour it into the pump bottle
for "Goodall" insertion into the boiler.
You will be gratified at the short time it takes to get the steam up - and
think of how much gas you save by not heating the water all the way up from
ambient temp to boiling!
It's allways more fun to me to see a loco operate, than to stand there waiting
for the cold water to boil, especially here in the cold, cold winter weather in

For those of you who have not met "Lunk", he is a 12 year old blue weimeraner,
and he really likes to watch the steamers run. CFO is not 'Chief Financial
Officer', rather, Lunk is in charge of maintaining the fertility level of the
back yard, hence Chief Fertilizing Officer.
