Parting off is another area where problems show up. A pair of ways to do a
good parting. One feed in the parting tool about the width of the tool bit,
withdraw and start a second part overlapping the first cut, go over and over in
this stepwise manner until the parting is complete. Second way: grab your
hack saw and go to it with the lathe running slowly. First you must decide if
the chunk of metal in the chuck or the piece you part off is to be the piece
you keep. So keep the hacksaw or step parting cut to avoid the piece you want
to keep then you can face off to final length.
