Hi Guys! Yes. Photo 1112 is my French Profile Cricket complete with Pierre at the throttle. My custom Argyle Bantam is the burgundy red loco behind it. Both have been given serious mechanical treatments by The O'Connor. The artwork, including the figures, is mine. The sheen comes from having run and enjoyed this powerful little piece of machinery for several years, now. It sometimes spits a lot! I think it's cute, too, but thanks for the compliments!
There was only one other Cricket at Diamondhead this year. It is #3 of the new version. (Westminster Locomotives?) It was not without issues. Mike Simpson and I each took our own Cricket apart to figure out what was askew with his. (Steamers version of "I'll show you mine, if you show me yours?" It was time for my Cricket to get a bit of extra clean-up, anyway.) Seems the new manufacturer is not using the same building techniques as the earlier Berkeley Locomotive Works. Not necessarily bad, just different. With a few modifications including removal of a nasty obstacle in the flue, wrapping the burner to cut back oversized flames and some other tweaking by Cricket owner and retired rocket engineer, Dion Dostaller, #3B became quite functional and Mike was able to enjoy running it. Unfortunately, we never had an opportunity to double head them. We had a great time at Diamondhead in spite of the nasty damage to the Diamondhead Resort (formerly the Ramada), only partial use of the building due to continued reconstruction and the devastation to the entire Gulf Coast that permeates life in the area even now, a year and a half after Katrina. It was my husband's first Diamondhead experience and we hope it won't be his last. It was super to see so many friends from GB, Canada and around the country and world, again. And Glen enjoyed a fun evening chatting with Fuji-san, President of Aster. One of the highlights (out of many) were the newest creations by Charlie Mynhier. (See Bob's photos IMG 0056.) Besides operating flawlessly and being very true to scale and detail, keep in mind that these two steam locos are very solid stainless steel! One of them weighs in at 35 pounds! And they are gorgeous! Not sure where you saw a diesel (at least one of the boats was electric), but there was a cab forward squired by Dave Hottman. Not sure which photo, there are so many. Did anyone mention that the new Shay-up record is 30? Get your Shays ready for July in Sacramento, we will be needing them all!
