Ah, that may be, I use adcli to join. The tries are in sssd_<domain>.log you'll see lines like this, you may need to turn up logging though, if I recall mine was on '9' when I found this. This was with a version prior to 0.8.1. The thread on the list was subjected "I'm new to everything!" from me.
