  This can be fixed with one to two changes . One check the group who owns the 
device for the cr/dvd drive . Look at ‘ less /var/run/dmesg.boot ‘ and search 
for the entry about the cd / dvd or run ‘camcontrol devlist’ and see what shows 
for the cd device . Next run ls -al /dev/the cd drive goes here . Check the 
group membership. So from here you can add this group to your user ; or you can 
add an entry to /etc/devfs.conf to change the perms or user/group ownership of 
the device. Then bounce the devfs daemon and log out and back in as your user  
and should be good . The devfs.conf way is the preferred way .
