I had the same problem with mpv / mplayer.
I hadn't got ffmpegthumbnailer. I have reinstalled ffmpeg - but it
didn't help.
But I have reinstalled mpv and mplayer - and it helped.

yesterday I updated a jail with pkg upgrade.
When I start geeqie I get a message:
geeqie
ld-elf.so.1: /usr/local/lib/libavformat.so.60: version LIBAVFORMAT_60
required by /usr/local/lib/libffmpegthumbnailer.so.4 not defined
I had exactly the same problem, and if memory fails me not, it
was fixed with:
# pkg upgrade -f ffmpegthumbnailer ffmpeg
Anyway, later a did
# pkg upgrade -f
to make sure all is well and up to date.
