The Call for Experience regarding the Draft spec XEP-0085 (Chat State Notifications) ended 2008-10-31. This email summarizes the findings, with a focus on the three considerations mentioned in Section 8.1 of XEP-0001.
1. Implementations. There are numerous implementations of this specification, including the Gajim, Psi, Spark, and Transverse clients (which are open-source). 2. Feedback. We received feedback regarding the implicit discovery algorithm, specifically whether to (1) modify it by specifying that the User shall send <active/> in all messages unless it receives a reply with no chat state notification or (2) remove it entirely in favor of explicit discovery via service discovery (XEP-0030) or entity capabilities (XEP-0115). Discussion of this issue is ongoing. 3. Accuracy. The specification has been double-checked for accuracy by the XEP Editor, but further reviews would be helpful.
