-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 As you might know from discussions in the XMPP WG or at the XMPP Summit over the last few years, we've been working to update the handling of non-ASCII characters in JIDs by migrating from Stringprep to PRECIS. This is a big effort, but it is now pretty mature and sometime soon the XMPP WG will hold a "working group last call" for comments on draft-ietf-xmpp-6122bis. However, before then the PRECIS WG will hold a WGLC on draft-ietf-precis-nickname, which we might re-use in Multi-User Chat (XEP-0045). The nickname spec is quite short (only 7 pages including boilerplate) and it provides a good way for Jabberites to become familiar with this internationalization work.
I would very much appreciate reviews of the nickname spec (and 6122bis and the PRECIS framework) from developers in the XMPP community. Certainly I think this is something that all XMPP Council members will want to look at, but if your client, server, or library code supports internationalized JIDs then you might want to compare the new PRECIS-based approach against the old Stringprep-based approach. However, if I don't receive enough reviews then I'll start poking people individually. ;-) Here are the relevant links: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-precis-nickname/ http://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-xmpp-6122bis/ https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-precis-framework/ Please provide feedback about the draft-ietf-precis-* documents on the [email protected] list and feedback about draft-ietf-xmpp-6122bis on the [email protected] list: https://www.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/precis https://www.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/xmpp Alternatively, feel free to send me feedback directly via email or IM.
