Hey folks, I'm thinking about organizing a one-day XMPP hackathon and
testfest in Berlin on Saturday, July 27, right before IETF 87. The
IETF meeting will include an XMPP WG session and probably a "Birds of
a Feather" meeting about POSH ("PKIX Over Secure HTTP") as a prooftype
for server identity checking beyond just XMPP (IMAP, SMTP, SIP,
iSchedule, etc.). Since some North American XMPP people will already
be in Berlin at that time and there are lots of XMPP people within
relatively close proximity to Berlin, a meetup might work well.
The idea is to do some hacking and testing (code, not specs!) about
XMPP security and federation, including topics like certificate
checking, DNSSEC, experimental POSH support, challenges in
multi-tenanted and virtual hosting environments, and maybe even some
topics related to attacks on the XMPP network (incident reporting,
communication blocking, MUC flooding, etc.).
I'm hoping to recruit two primary audiences in Europe: (1) developers
from XMPP server projects like ejabberd, M-Link, MongooseIM, Prosody,
Tigase, and Wokkel, and (2) operators from service providers like
Flosoft, GMX, Google, i-pobox.net, and WebEx. Of course, other folks
would be welcome as well. :-)
