I agree with everything you're saying here, but sadly it's out of our hands (and not in scope for the XSF). The best we could do is write a detailed proposal of what we'd like a Javascript API to provide us, and send it to the W3C. It's possible some of this will be covered by the Javascript Crypto API work going on, too, I'd fondly imagine. Dave.
