Originally we were trying to complete this document so that it could serve as an updated reference for draft-ietf-stox-media. However, I agree that we might want to wait until the ICE work is settled. I can double-check with the ICE WG chairs on timing for 5245bis. My sense is that we're not truly in a big hurry to update replace XEP-0176...
