1) Roll Call
Present: Dave, Kev, Sam, Daniel
Urlaubend: Georg

2a) MUC Avatars -- https://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/muc-avatars.html
Dave would like to understand how it differs from the de-facto that it suggests
exists; the author says he tried to explain that in the introduction and
section 5.2. Dave thought it was just about presence.
Daniel isn't entirely sure of the motivation.
Sam thinks it's unnecessary as this is already achievable, and a second XEP
almost the same as vcard-temp feels awkward; but is curious what others think
(especially client authors.) The author hesitated making it 'Informational',
but is still unsure.
Dave suggests that it's mostly usage and semantics, rather than protocol, but
seems useful to document. Sam thinks 'Informational' makes a bit more sense,
though having a Standards Track XEP that rehashes a Historical one and adds
discovery feels odd - having multiple XEPs in various states, documenting the
same thing, feels poor - would prefer to add a note to vcard-temp saying "MUCs
are JIDs too."
Daniel doesn't think this XEP will retroactively solve the issue, and if your
client breaks when receiving presence from a bare JID then maybe you should fix
your client.

Daniel: +1
Kev: +1
Dave: +1
Sam: [on-list] (hesitant to publish this, but it seems fine protocol-wise)
Georg: [pending]

2b) XEP-0060: Add an example on returning fewer items than requested --
https://github.com/xsf/xeps/pull/695
Dave thinks it's straightforward.
Kev wants to know the back story. Dave obliges: XEP-0060 doesn't say what
happens if a client requests the N most recent items and fewer are present;
this PR documents the Obvious Thing™. Kev had wondered why it was necessary
when it's so obvious. The author recalls a hazy day, many moons ago, during the
XMPP Sprint, when they uncovered a case of Prosody sending back an error
instead of zero items - the PR makes sure servers behave correctly in this
case. Kev is satiated.
Kev doesn't have time to give it the Full Review® treatment, and so is
reluctant to +1, but the patch looks fine.

Dave: +1
Sam: +1 (will leave some editorial notes)
Daniel: +1
Kev: +0
Georg: [pending]

3) AOB
Kev has "Nowt."

4) Next Meeting
Kev will be out of action until October (fully, not on-list.)
2018-09-12 1500 UTC for everyone else present.

5) Close
Dave thanks all.

Link Mauve notes there are still a few outstanding PRs tagged as 'Needs
Council'; Dave believes they have had votes and expired, but will see about
tidying up and ensuring they're documented.
Guus asks whether PR #579 was voted on - it was opened in February, but has
since been modified according to feedback. [Original vote was 2018-02-07;
modifications since; new vote needed?]
