Title: External Service Discovery
Abstract:
This document specifies an XMPP protocol extension for discovering
services external to the XMPP network.

URL: https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0215.html

This Last Call begins today and shall end at the close of business on
2022-07-27.

Please consider the following questions during this Last Call and send
your feedback to the [email protected] discussion list:

1. Is this specification needed to fill gaps in the XMPP protocol
stack or to clarify an existing protocol?

Yes. Jingle needs a way to pass STUN/TURN details.

2. Does the specification solve the problem stated in the introduction
and requirements?

Yes, and then some. I want to state for the record that the
specification is overly generic and allows for all kinds of service
details to be communicated. Early versions were limited to STUN/TURN
and that may have been a good idea.

3. Do you plan to implement this specification in your code? If not,
why not?

In the context of Prosody, this specification has been implemented
several times by various contributors, me included. It is even widely
deployed.

4. Do you have any security concerns related to this specification?

No. The support for any arbitrary services other than what it is used
(and originally intended) makes it difficult to be sure if and how it
starts seeing usage for other kinds of external services.

5. Is the specification accurate and clearly written?

Yes.
