As the discussion happened on xfs@ MUC, I'm giving here an update for people interested.
After a discussion on the topic, Marvin (larma, the author of XEP-0447) came with a nice solution to allow multiple files sharing + body text in the same message + backward compatibility: A first message is sent with all shared files + no restriction on the body (so a message can be sent at the same time), then optionally sources are sent again in separate messages, one per shared file, with backward compatible fallbacks. Client with latest version of XEP-0447 can ignore those later messages and only use the first one, while other clients will ignore the first one and handle files one by one as usual with later messages. This is IMHO an elegant solution to the problem that should satisfy everybody, and can lead to a deprecation of XEP-0385 so we can finally have a single XEP for attaching multiple files to <message> (and pubsub). A new version of XEP-0447 is to be expected at some point with those changes.
