This is a pretty basic, maybe stupid question but either I "don't get it"
or when I follow the Apple/iTunes/Toast instructions something doesn't
work. I just want to burn CDRs, in this case simple music CDRs, I'll worry
about data some other time(although if there is special advice about data
I'll listen). Nothing complicated like MP3s, just full music files, space
on the HD or CDR speed doesn't matter, I want to play these in regular CD
players. I have a SM 4000 MT W/G3, 160 MB RAM, OS 9.1 the original 8X IDE
CD and a SCSI Yamaha 8824S CDRW. I am using imation 16X 80 min CDRs.
On the software side I have iTunes. Toast 4.1.1, Disc Burner. For CD
Drivers I have FWB CD ROM Toolkit, the Apple CD/DVD driver, the Apple
CD/DVD (patched) driver, Disc Burner, iTunes and Toast CD Reader. Usually I
just use the patched Apple CD driver and the Toast CD rreader and leave
Disc Burner and FWB Toolkit off although I have tried different
configurations.
Although the Yamaha is an 8X CDRW I really don't care about speed, I really
don't care if I have to copy a CD to my hard drive. But I really don't know
how to do this. Do I need a different program to copy a file to my HD and
then how do I get it into iTunes or Toast? I cannot mount the music CD with
Disc Copy, I get a Mac OS error message. With Toast I an error message
(Couldn't complete the last command because of a Mac OS error. Result code
= --9536), iTunes will not burn a copy from library files.
I really just want this simple, I would like to drag a file from the IDE CD
to a program and just burn but nothing works. The one time I burned a CD
with Toast there was a lot of noise, like a record skipping and other
pauses. Totally unacceptable sound, my wife threw out the recording. (I
don't think its the medium as they burn OK off her PB G4Ti with a Iomega
USB CDRW, really a piece of XXX, and I could not get that unit to record
off the SM either via USB.)
What drivers should I have on and off? Is there an Apple Talk Issue? (I
tried it both off and on) An extension conflict?
If this is too basic and boring for the list maybe someone could walk me
through by email.
