I'm running a StarMax 4000/200, which dual-boots Mac OS 9.1 and Yellow Dog
Linux 2.0 (http://www.yellowdoglinux.com/). I don't want to be
off-putting, but it was difficult to get it all running (only possible for
me, rather a newbie to Linux, with the help of the nice guys in #linuxppc
on IRC at irc.openprojects.net).

I had a lot of difficulties, requiring a lot of changes to be made, even a
new kernel to be sought out and downloaded to support the Mach64VT (or
whatever its called) graphics chip on my machine.

Even now, the cursor (and all other moving objects) 'paint' all over the
screen, and with either KDE 2.0 or GNOME 1.4 or something, the RAM soon
runs out and everything goes slow, 64 Mb RAM is just insufficient, it
seems, to run a recent desktop manager.

Text mode runs fine though.

If you are a Linux expert already, it should be easy to sort out, if you
are a newbie, expect to have problems, make sure you befriend a Linux nerd
before you start ;)

Alas, I have abandoned Linux, and now only use Mac OS. OK, it freezes, but
so does Win 98 about once a day at work; both Mac OS and Win 98 run
far, far more efficiently (hmm...Lnux-Mandrake runs fine with KDE 1 in 64
Mb RAM on a 200-ish MHz PC) so I'll stick to them, even though Linux, when
its walking not crawling along, is a cool OS.

- Daniel.
