I have 9.2.1 installed and bootable on my StarMax. It is on a 10 G unpartitioned drive by its self. (There is a reason for this, mainly the volume, i think, don,t ask me why). 9.2.1 is only using 296.6 MB. There are comments on the MacFixit forum. I tried installing on a 3.3G patition but neither Scott's nor Kinney's "system" patch would work.
So far my 3rd party programs work. I did all of the installing on the 10 G drive while booted from a 30 G drive running OS 9.1 I have 9.2.1 installer and patches downloaded and ready to use on the DeskTop. Here is what i did to get 9.2.1 installed AND bootable, no more no less: Keep a bootable cd in your cd drive in case you get a hangup. 1) Boot from main 30G drive which has Os 9.1 2) Install OS 9.0 on 10G drive 3) Install OS 9.0.4 on 10G drive 4) Install OS 9.1 on 10G drive 5) Change Gestalt to 510 using Gestlab (Wannabe probably work ok) 6) Installed 9.2.1 onto 10G drive 7) Used Scott's "system 9.2.1 patch" to patch the "system" in the system folder on the 10G drive. Viola. http://homepage.mac.com/scottboone/FileSharing.html (Scott's patch. There are two patchs here, i used only one) http://homepage.mac.com/cywong/FileSharing.html (Kenney's patch. Gave same problem on 10G drive as it did on 3.3G drive.) http://www.macfixitforums.com/php/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=OS92&Number=231805 &page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=7&part=4 (page 4 of 6, Thanks to The Mr. Pop Man) http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/OS9/os_9_2_1_install_mods.html http://www.geocities.com/jp_curcio/ (Gestlab. download Database also) Download 9.2.1 installer at Apple. I see no advantage 9.2.1 over 9.1 and i probably will not try X. -- StarMax is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... / Buy books, CDs, videos, and more from Amazon.com \ / <http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect-home/lowendmac> \ Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> StarMax list info: <http://lowendmac.com/lists/starmax.html> Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/starmax%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Macintosh?
