I have done this. It works great.

I was trying to get a Voodoo 5 video card to work in my 3000/180 and 
one suggestion was to upgrade to a beefier power supply. I bought one 
and tried it using the StarMax connectors (made an adapter). It did 
not solve the Voodoo 5 issue, so I returned the power supplied and 
spliced the connectors back on the old power supply.
