My previous post is cited below. David Klaus brought up a good issue or 2 I
didnt think about, so would like to do some clarification.
I had already reformatted my Starmax HD to HFS+ when I installed a
larger (6 gb) HD, while I was running 8.6. I later installed 9.1 from 8.6.
I think to say "Most of the programs you have probably wont work, or
will have issues running under OS 9.1." as David did may be an exaggeration
(but it should certainly be a concern). I was running a real old version of
MS Word on OS 7, 8, and 9 without problems until I finally got a newer
version of Word, for example. Simple text works with them all also I think,
though I'm sure many applications could be cited which don't.
Yes, the newer the OS the more Ram it takes- good point, which I have
pointed out before myself. Even for 8.6 it's best to have at least 96 mb.
So he may be well-served to just get 8.6 and work with that for a while
rather than take the leap from 7 to 9 (esp as the installer for 9 wont run
on 7 anyway).
