I currently run Yellowdog Linux on a 3000/240 with the same upgrades(160 mb RAM, Met@box G3 card, and a USB card). The G3 will work, but you have to boot MacOS first so that the Met@box extension loads. BootX comes up next to enable OS selection(Mac or Linux). I installed a PCally USB card(Macally perhaps?) USB card and it was recognized without incident, as was the Logitech trackMan Marble trackball connected to it. I installed the USB card in the riser slot closest to the motherboard. Linux will indeed give your Starmax a new lease on life. I've had my machine running for months without having to reboot, or rebuild a desktop or any Mac-centric maintenance tricks. The only thing I'm missing is proper browser plugins. but I'm getting used to that. One other big bonus hardware-wise is the ability to connect slave drives to the two StarMax IDE busses. While this may not be a consideration for people with >20 Gb drives, it is a boon if all you're using is a rag-tag collection of 2G and 4G drives. -Ernie -- StarMax is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... / Buy books, CDs, videos, and more from Amazon.com \ / <http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect-home/lowendmac> \ Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> StarMax list info: <http://lowendmac.com/lists/starmax.html> Send list messages to: <mailto:starmax@;mail.maclaunch.com> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:starmax-off@;mail.maclaunch.com> For digest mode, email: <mailto:starmax-digest@;mail.maclaunch.com> Subscription questions: <mailto:listmom@;lowendmac.com> Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/starmax%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Macintosh?
