HFS+ support exists, but is not ready for primetime. If you have HFS partitions, you can mount them in Linux, and read files from them. A utility called mountX used to exist the let you mount ext2 linux partitions while in macOS, but it is no longer supported and will also not read the newer journalling filesystems used in linux. Mac-On-Linux would let you freely transfer files between both systems if you needed to. I'm finding that I have less and less reason to do that. With respect to booting Linux, BootX is probably the easiset option for a StarMax, which definetely qualifies as an Old World Mac. It's also crucial to use this method if you need to get a G3 card operational, as I mentioned in an earlier post. I also concur with Daniel and his assessment that Linux is an OS for people that like getting under the hood. But with hardware detection getting better, software package management systems like RPM and apt-get, and system admin packages like Webmin, you're getting under the hood with a good set of tools. -Ernie -- StarMax is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... / Buy books, CDs, videos, and more from Amazon.com \ / <http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect-home/lowendmac> \ Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> StarMax list info: <http://lowendmac.com/lists/starmax.html> Send list messages to: <mailto:starmax@;mail.maclaunch.com> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:starmax-off@;mail.maclaunch.com> For digest mode, email: <mailto:starmax-digest@;mail.maclaunch.com> Subscription questions: <mailto:listmom@;lowendmac.com> Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/starmax%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Macintosh?
