Hi all-- David Schwartz provided the answer to fix my problem with apps filling up the allotted RAM space using Virtual Memory (VM). I thought that the default offered when opening the Memory control panel would effectively double the RAM available (I have 144mb, so the Memory CP offers 145mb as the default choice). But as David explains it, the Memory CP is totaling the physical and VM. It offers the min. of 1mb for VM, thus the total of 145mb. He suggested setting the VM at 288mb to double my total RAM and it worked. I opened 8 apps to take up 210mb in the About this Computer readout and they ran correctly. Thanks, David.
