I reformatted with HFS+ when I upgraded to OS 8.1 and haven't looked back. I know of one case where a person had strange problems with OS 9.x booting from HFS, and when they went to HFS+ the problems went away. Also, I would definitely recommend updating to HFS+ and your disk drivers using the drive setup program on your OS 9.1 CD.
