Greetings Ed, From the front of the range. I could be corrected if I am in error, but isn't the built-in video output capable of using a standard VGA monitor? Apple's ADC is probably out of the question. I know I ran an NEC 17" on my 5000 with millions of colors, high resolution, etc. I know that people tried to get high resolution on monitors not capable of it, but I've always been able to do that with the NEC.
Later I got an inexpensive VooDoo card, but it didn't change the color or resolution depth. I am enjoying the Apple 17" LCD on my G4 (3 mos. old) though had to send it back when one of the backlight panels started dimming. Apple fixed it. Your other issues I can't address except extra USB ports are always handy.
