Welcome to the StarMax list! I'm a relative newcomer myself. I got a StarMax 5500/200 from a computer boneyard/recycle shop late last year. It had been stripped of RAM and CD, and I almost parted it out when I couldn't get it to boot with dozens of DIMMs. Then I got lucky and put in a 32 MB stick (the next to last at the shop), and bingo! Now I've added a SCSI 12X CD-ROM and Zip 100 from a 6500/225, a removable hard drive caddy, and 32 MB more RAM. My StarMax now boots 9.1 much faster than my G3/300 MT with 384 MB RAM, and I can use either a Mac or a PC keyboard and mouse, and I can boot either to the 4 GB 9.1 IDE HDD, or to the 8.6 2 GB IDE HDD out of the 6500. That's hard to do with a pre-G3 Mac. What a flexible, sweet machine! And it still has four empty PCI slots. It has fast become my most favorite Mac, and I've got close to 100 of them from Classic to G3. As soon as I get an external SCSI CD/RW and a G3 upgrade card, plus more RAM and a USB PCI card, it will become my main machine. No wonder Steve Jobs killed all the Mac clones in '97 or so. They're the best of both worlds (pre-G4, of course). -- Jim
