        Both monitors and OS 9 have energy saving options. It is not unusual 
to see a monitor "go to sleep" after a period of inactivity. Have you 
checked the Control Panels to see how soon the monitor is set to go to 
sleep? Likewise the monitor itself may have hardware settings on how 
long before it is to go so sleep. If it does, then the settings are 
accessed through the monitor's display menus (the menu for setting 
color, screen size, calibration, brightness and whatever else they have 
thought to put it).

        I doubt very much that it is the StarMax itself.
