The VM thing below caused me to remember a time when the Views control 
panel was set to calculate folder sizes.  Everything came to a crawl as the 
machine did the initial calculations and then was really slow on the 
internet as all the cache folders and email folders kept being recalculated 
all the time.



Another consideration that may be your cause for slow speed is virtual 
memory.  If possible, turn it off.  This should significantly speed things 
up for you.
