I have a JoeCard G3 processor upgrade card that has a 40mm X 40mm fan atop the processor that started humming. I peeled back the circular label in the center of the fan and put one drop of oil on the fan's center shaft and the hum went away.

But I do have a JoeCard!!!! I will check out the fan on the card first. Will sewing machine oil be OK?

Nan-- sure. I used some old, old "3 in 1" oil that my parents had back in the 50s.

On the label, I actually pressed down on the label in the center and a small circular impression showed itself in the label. So I figured that was the bearing side and sure enough I guessed right. (The other side of the fan didn't react this way.) So then I took a razor blade and cut around the impression using the bearing underneath to guide the blade almost all the way around. Peeled that small circular cut-out back and there was the bearing. Placed a drop of oil on it and its been quiet for about 2 months now. Pressed the label cut-out back into place to keep out dirt. Good luck...
