Heh, point them at Motorola's own site which states clearly that the battery
in a StarMax is trickle charged.

And I know other machines trickle-charge the CMOS battery - it may have been
the Acorn Archimedes where that feature was withdrawn because stuff blew up.
It's been too long, but other machines certainly have the feature. (maybe it
was just that older models lacked the feature? or was it older Macs? guh, I
need a working memory)

So must my 486 have it, which is doing remarkably well. It's now 10 years
old, and has the same motherboard battery as it started with, and it still
works. For that matter, it's not got software power, and it's only switched
on once in a while, but the battery is keeping going month in, month out,
with virtually no help from external power any more. Not bad...
