Today I began the process of replacing the original 2.4g drive in our SM 3000/240 with a 40g drive by Maxtor.
First, I took the IDE cable from the original CD drive and plugged it into the Maxtor. With the Maxtor jumper set for "master", the drive appeared on the desktop and in Drive SetUp. It initialized with no difficulty.
...snip...

The Maxtor drive should have come with an ATA-66 IDE cable (40 pin/80 conductor) which must be used with newer drives on the StarMax.

Mr. PopMan - [EMAIL PROTECTED] - "Does anybody want to play a game of pinball?"
If you don't do it excellently, don't do it at all. Because if
it's not excellent, it won't be profitable or fun, and if you're not in
business for fun or profit, what the hell are you doing there?"
