Dear List The story first. I have a StarMax 4000/200 (tower) in which I intend to install a orange link + firwire1394+USB PCI card, for the connectivity upgrading! Prior to doing this and have it run, I have successfully installed updates from 8.1 to 8.5 to 9.1. This is so the card works (which requires a minimum of OS 8.6!)
Question. In the literature for installing the card it says that it is recommended it goes in PCI slot number one, and if a PCI SCSI card exists there it should be moved down to make way! The question therfore is which is slot numbr one?? I have no detailed recollection of the insides of the machine since I last opened it up however, I do currently have one of the bays with a connection I use for the external zip drive and it is defiantly in a forward position, yet I am not sure if this will turn out to be bay one? Are they numbered? I have looked at the manual for the machine and there is not much of a clue, unless I missed it! Well, has anyone any advise to follow that would have me confirm to myself which is bay one when I have that machine open? Caveat . Please bear in mind I am no computer whizz, geek, brain or nothing here. Just an honest bod upgrading as economically as I know how!
