My Eudora 5.2.1 doesn't have "Tools->Options," but "Allow
authorization" at "Sending Mail" doesn't make possible SMTP relay.

Try looking at Tools->Options->Sending Mail -> Allow Authentication
checkbox etc

I thank you for reminding me of the Eudora 'X-Settings.' I do have
them, but I never did anything with them and I don't know how to
use them to achieve what I need:
Use my ISP's SMTP server as a relay to send mail to another SMTP
server. The problem is that my ISP requires verification of my
password but Eudora 5.2.1 has no provision to send my password along
with the mail to be relayed.
Alternatively, which Mac OS 8.6 compatible mail applications allow to do this?
SMTP relay is useful, actually required, when sending mail using a
mail application (instead of using web mail) from a mail service
that allows SMTP mail but is not your ISP.

Hi Terry, Herman and anyone else interested in this subject,
I don't know if you're aware of it, but built into Eudora are many
more preferences then those appearing under the 'Settings' Screen.
To my knowledge, these are referred to as 'X-Settings', and are
quite lengthy and detailed in allowing you to truly customize
Eudora to your personal preferences and setup.
If you like, I can e-mail them to you. As it's a rather large
message, I'll leave it you to e-mail me if you want them.
Alternatively, you can subscribe to an e-mail list that will
provide you with the latest updates, as newer versions of the
amazing program become available. It is:

As a generality, the TidBits web site and corresponding e-mail list
is a terrific resource for all things 'Macintosh'. It can be found
at: http://www.tidbits.com
Enjoy!
... perhaps now, the Genie is out of the bottle!

This did it - thank you.
Would you know the settings for SMTP relay?
Hi Herman,
I've never seen the word "relay" in my Eudora settings.
Where is it?
If you turn on your Mac Balloon Help in your upper menus. . .
Eudora is such a great program that every little checkbox
will be explained when you point to it.
This seems to be the problem, there is no provision for SMTP relay.
SMTP relay is used to use your ISP (or any SMTP server) as a relay.
My former ISP allowed to do this without any checking, but my new
one requires verification, and it seems Eudora v 5.2.1 has no settings
for it.
