I've been following the spirited debate about the recognition of
astrology on the Space.com Web site. Like a lot of others, I
believe that whenever possible, we astronomers should point out the
difference between the science of astronomy and the
"pseudo-science" of astrology. There are a lot of
people out there who believe astronomy and astrology are one in the
same. At the same time, I respect the rights of people who put
a lot of stock in their astrological beliefs. As long as people
understand the difference between astronomy versus astrology, I'm
happy. I'll leave everyone with one of my favorite quotes from
Carl Sagan on astrology:
"The "pull" of the obstetrician delivering
a baby has much more of an influence on the newborn that the
gravitational pull or location of the Sun, Moon, or planets of our
Solar System at the time of birth."
Clear skies everyone !!
