Subject: [Starry Night] Pro space ship
We've been toying with the idea of adding a spaceship simulator to Starry
Night. In fact, there is a mockup of one built into Pro. It really is very
preliminary but it might give you an idea of what could be done. To get it
going you need to have Starry Night Pro (it isn't in Starry Night Backyard):
1. Turn real time flow on
2. Set "Update in Real Time every" to 0 seconds in the time preferences
dialog (File | Preferences | Time...)
3. Select the Arrow tool in the main tool palette
4. Choose "Hide Floating Palettes" from the Windows menu
5. Open the Viewing Location dialog box
6. Hold down the SHIFT and CONTROL keys while clicking on the "Fixed
Location" radio button.
7. Click "Set Location"
Now you should be in the space ship mode that lets you fly around. To
decrease/increase your speed use the 1 and 2 keys on the keyboard. The arrow
keys do pitch and yaw. The a and z keys do roll. Don't use the mouse at all.
If you don't hide all the palettes (step 4 above) then you can turn orbits
on and off, which can help navigation. You can still hide/show palettes as
you wish.
