At this moment (1:45 AM)
the skies above Toronto are clear and the temp. is a comfortable 12 degrees
Celsius. With the aid of my Nexstar 5 and Canon 15x45 I.S. binoculars and
Starry Night Pro, I again marvel at some of our finest sights. To the
south-east lying on its side is Orion probably resting till it is his turn to
grace our evening skies throughout the long winter months. Higher up to the
south east is the fabulous Pleiades star cluster. But for me it is the two gas
giants that leave me wanting to come back for more. And there they are high
overhead and just a little south and east lie Saturn and to it's left the mighty
Jupiter. With the addition of the bright star Aldebaran below these planets and
acting as the nose one can imagine a face looking down at us. In a couple
of hrs. all these will be high overhead and south. Another opportunity for we
night owls to lose a little sleep in the interest of science. The downside is
catching what for from our spouses for wandering in and out all night while she
tries to sleep.
Happy skies all,
