Dune� Gets Greenlight
The Sci Fi cable channel has finally given the greenlight to
the production of their six-hour miniseries Frank Herbert�s
Dune. According to Variety, William Hurt and Giancarlo
Giannini have joined the film�s cast along with the previously
announced Alec Newman (as Paul Atreides), Muriel
Baumeister, Uwe Ochsenknecht, Ian McNeice and Barbara
Kodetova. John Harrison (Tales From the Darkside: The
Movie) is set to direct the series from his own script. The
project has a budget in the $20M range and starts shooting
Monday on location in Prague, the Czech Republic and
Tunisia. The final product will air on the cable channel in the
fourth quarter of 2000.
