Darth Vader actor Dave Prowse's mystery paralysis has worsened,
spreading to his back.
The former champion bodybuilder had to be taken to hospital last week after
suddenly losing the use of his arm while on a trip to Germany.
He has since been resting at the hospital in Croydon, south London, while
doctors carry out tests, although they have now ruled out a stroke.
Prowse played Vader in the first three Star Wars films, although he did not
voice the evil character, as well as starring as the Green Cross Code Man for
Seventies public information films.
His spokesman, Phil Day, said: "The paralysis he had has now spread to his
back so it Is not looking good at the moment.
"They don't think it is a stroke, and it might be something to do with the
blood. He said to me 'I've no idea what is wrong with me - people haven't been
able to tell me'."
Prowse, whose family runs a gym, had been walking with a stick after an
operation two years ago left him with one leg shorter than the other.
"He can still move his legs but he has not been able to walk because he
can't apply any pressure on the walking stick," said Mr Day. "He is still a
very sick man."
The former Mr Universe contestant, who is a popular draw at sci fi
conventions for his role as Darth Vader, has been deluged with cards from
well-wishers. Sir Norman Wisdom is among those who have passed on their
concerns to Prowse, 63.
"He's been very touched by everyone's thoughts," said Mr Day.
