Hi All,

I'm new to the list and I'm a big user of Identica. I love it so much I'd
love to use it on my Blackberry as I do Twitter. My problem is most of the
apps I find are Java-based and they don't work so well.

I've been toying with the idea of creating my own Blackberry app, but I'm
just a PHP web developer - so I don't know what it fully takes to create a
desktop or mobile app. I've seen Blackberry's SDK page, but that's about
it.

Does anyone know of an existing project involving StatusNet and Blackberry
devices? Also; if I understood the wiki page correct (
http://status.net/wiki/API) that a native API is in the works, but it's not
finalized or released yet? Thanks.
Hi Marc,

I have a StatusNet native App for the iPhone, and I've written Blackberry Apps in the past (several years ago). There are a few different development options on the BlackBerry, but I think your best bet is the Java development kit.

I would start by looking for an open source J2ME based twitter client. A quick search turned up this link: http://sugree.com/project/jibjib. There are also some Blackberry Apps mentioned here: http://status.net/wiki/Apps#Blackberry. It should be a fairly trivial task to modify a Twitter client to support StatusNet sites. The StatusNet team has done an excellent job of implementing the Twitter compatible API, and you may get it to work without any changes other than changing the server to a StatusNet API URL.
