Looking at Facebook and Twitter, both have a suggestion system in place, where they can suggest people that you friend/follow. It seems the algorithms are based on friends-of-friends. The more friends-of-friends that you have, it seems the higher the chance is that you will know the person. Is this something being worked on for Status.net/Identi.ca? Just curious.
