Hello to all.

As you may have noticed if you follow the code committed to the trunk
branch, there is currently an effort to make plug-ins translatable.
Alex Wolf is doing the initial work and I am trying to review his
changes and fix the stuff they break.

Unfortunately, internationalization is not as easy as adding calls to
q_() to the code and the necessary files to POTFILES.IN. In a lot of
cases, text is used in a way that is not translation-friendly, and the
plug-in itself hasn't been written with changeable languages in mind.

The most common bug is that a plug-in's strings are initialized with
the correct string at start-up, but they are not updated when the
language is changed at runtime.

There are also a lot of strings that have an unclear meaning outside
of context, so adding "// TRANSLATORS:" comments is necessary.

The progress so far:
- The only major plug-in that has been (almost) completely translated
and fixed is Satellites. (Compass Marks and Angle Measure were
trivial.)

- Alexander Wolf has also done some initial translation-enabling work
on the Solar System Editor, TUI, Time Zone and Telescope Control.
Oculars will be translated after my branch is merged.

- I just had a look at Text User Interface. There's quite a lot of
work to be done on it, even if we ignore the fact that it's not
complete yet.

More progress reports are to follow.

Tomorrow I'm going to send a warning to the translators mailing list
and forum that the translatable strings won't be very stable in the
coming week(s).

Regards,
Bogdan Marinov
