Dear all,
Just submitted the proposal for merging of the new revision of
Observability plugin.
The language corrections by Mathew are also included.
Regarding the Mathew's idea of the inclusion of the Observability info into
the general info text, it sounds good, and of course the last decision has
to be made by the project owners. However, from my point of view (which may
be a bit biased, after quite many nights of monitoring and driving a radio
telescope), it may not be very confortable to have all the info in a
compact set of monochromatic lines. In my opinion, if someone is going to
use Stellarium heavily (for instance, in a looong and funny star party), it
is much better to have the different kinds of information in a "modular"
way. Let me ellaborate on this.
For instance, the info inherent to the object (e.g., the size, spectral
type, distance, magnitude, etc.) should be shown in one part of the screen;
the coordinates (celestial and local) should ideally be shown in another
part of the screen (and even in a different color); and the info regarding
rise, set, and transit times should finally be shown in another different
part of the screen.
Indeed, this is the reason why I added the color and size of the font as
tunning parameters by the user: to make the text more comfortably
distinguishable, so the user can look at a glance to the info he is
interested in, without having to search within a large set of lines (even
if it is put at the end of the large info text). So in short, I think that
the inclusion of "everything" in the main info text may make the checking
by the user more difficult and tiring, after tens and tens of objects being
checked.
Best Wishes,
Ivan
PS: A "hybrid" solution might also be to allow the Observability plugin to
update the general info text (and show the new info, if possible, at least
in a different color; let me insist on this, for the confort of the users!
:D).
