Investors in *Oracle (**ORCL* <http://seekingalpha.com/symbol/orcl>*)* had a lot of news flow to digest following the release of the first quarter earnings report as the company announced that its co-Founder and CEO Larry Ellison is stepping down. From now onwards, that role will be filled in a co-leadership position by Safra Catz and Mark Hurd.
The operating performance and guidance was on the soft side, yet shares remain appealing on dips given the strong balance sheet, shareholder payouts, impressive track record and fair valuation. First Quarter Highlights Oracle reported <http://investor.oracle.com/files/doc_financials/quarterly/2015/Q1/1q15-press_release-September.pdf> first quarter sales of $8.60 billion which is a 2.7% increase versus last year but missed consensuses estimates at $8.78 billion. The modest increase in topline sales did not translate all the way through the income statement with net earnings of $2.18 billion being down by 0.3% versus last year.
