22 April 2006 mark the beginning of the fifth year of the people's struggle against Coca-Cola in Plachimada. Two years have passed since this Coca Cola plant was forced to shut down since 8 March 2004. The polluter Coca Cola has still not been held liable and remains scot free. The water in Plachimada is still not potable; its water table have not risen.
The Coca-Cola Virudha Samara Samithy (Anti Coca-Cola Struggle Committee) and the Plachimada Aikyadhardya Samithy (Plachimada Solidarity Committee) jointly organises a Seminar on 13 April 2006 at Palakkad.
The Seminar would be addressed amongst others by N.N Krishnadas (MP, Palakkad); O.Rajagopal (Former Minister, Govt. of India); V.S Vijayaraghavan (Ex.MLA); K.P Suresh Raj (Covenor, Anti Pepsi Struggle Committee); A. Krishnan (Ex.President, Perumatty Panchayat); Indianoor Gopi (Bharatha Puzha Samrakshana Samithy); K.A Shafeeq (Solidarity Youth Movement); G.S Padmakumar (SUCI); C.R Bijoy (PUCL); Vilayodi Venugopal (Coca-Cola Virudha Samara Samithy); and Veloor Swaminathan (Coca-Cola Virudha Samara Samithy).
R.Ajayan, Convenor of Plachimada Aikyadhardya Samithy would present the topic. C.R Neelakantan of Plachimada Aikyadhardya Samithy would moderate the session.
The Seminar would be held at Moin Lower Primary School, Palakkad at 1600 hrs on 13 April 2006.
This seminar is a prelude to a process of democratic discussions in the state to evolve a new perspective based on the peoples experiences in water crisis and struggles around water issues in Kerala. The Plachimada struggle presents lessons from the four years of continuous struggle as well as possible direction to face the challenge - Towards A People's Water Policy.
