Dear Nicole,
To locate local stone, try looking in the yellow pages
of your phone directory under 'stone - Natural' and then
go visit the stoneyard (which is always a pleasant
experience wherever you go).
I live in Colorado and can't say I am familiar with
anything but limestone in KS. I know nothing in
Missouri. I have worked a gray sandstone from Arkansas
which is readily available in CO.
