I hear your concerns. I think I left out some information
in my little essay. Firstly, I am participating as a student,
under a master stone carver with thirty-odd years experience.
I am the artist, and a helper; I have acquired my equipment
specifically to develop a better sense of what I am going to be
working with at the symposium. I am trying to "read-ahead"
before classes start, as it were.
Secondly, my design work was sought because I tend to abstract
minimalism. Simple planes and sweeping curves. If I were
foolish enough to attempt realism in any degree I fully expect
I would be severely short of time even given seven -months- and
my current skills.
Seamus' remarks were hurtful, but sobering. I've seen his website,
and clearly he has the experience to back his strength of opinion.
(I might wish for more tact...) Steven's reasoned tone made me
reread my letter to the list, and find the holes I hope I have
answered above.
