I was going to avoid this thread because there is no
easy answer or miracle cure, but I couldn't let it be.
I've got over 15 years experience in the restoration of
historic masonry structures and I've used everything
from alkoxy-silanes to beeswax. In the course of that
experience I can testify that there is no long term
solution to your problem.
ALL sealers/consolodants/water repellants/protectants
will ultimately fail within 7-12 years, regardless of
"UV Resistance" or any other claim, real or spurious.
All stones weather, some faster than others, and to
expect stasis in this regard is to be eventually
disappointed. If you are serious about conserving a
stone as soft as alabaster, then keep it out of the rain
and weather.
Having said this, you may still want to research the
subject of consolodation and water repllancy - check out
the website of ProSoCo - one of the largest
manufacturers and distributors of stone cleaning and
restoration products in the U.S.
