Kenneth,

I can't give you any advice on turning, but as you are in Virginia and
looking for a source of stone, there is a company in Charlottesvill VA. that
is selling a soapstone called Blackpearl that is outstanding , strong and
very carvable material. I've carved this stuff and was able to push to an
extreme. Its a lot harder than regular soapstone. Check it out at
http://www.blackpearlsoapstone.com/ .

Good luck,
George Graham
