Sorry Harold the path is a bit different now that the project has started. When a new podling starts incubating, we give commit rights to all the people interested in working on the project. Now that the project has started, the rules change to the usual mode of earning karma and being voted in.

However, in the early stages of a project (like we're in now) the bar is usually kept low to help bring people into the project faster. So, the way forward is for the interns to check out the code, play with it and then start sending patches with the changes they want to make. The first step I think will be to refactor the currect WSO2 WSAS / Axis2 impl to cleanly separate pure Java bits from WSAS/Axis2 specific bits. Then they can add the Metro specific bits. Again initially they'd need to submit patches (via JIRA as that way they grant a license to the patch when they attach it) and then after a few patches we'll vote them in as committers and they're "let loose" to be on their own :).

Of course, the first thing to do is to ask them to sign up to the mailing list and start talking :). Let's get personal .. no referring to people as "interns" after that :). One key beauty of the open source world to me is that you can't tell the difference between an intern and a CTO and a grandmother on the mailing list!

Sanjiva.

Hello Harold,
Sorry if no one responded earlier. Here are few steps I went through:

0- They can join this list and the other committer list at
http://incubator.apache.org/stonehenge/lists_issues.html

1- Sign and fax/email/ the Individual Contributor License Agreement located at
http://www.apache.org/licenses/icla.pdf

2- Wait till the names of your interns appear in this list below, http://people.apache.org/~jim/committers.html

3- then sign up for a 'confluence' account ( the wiki system for the project) at
http://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/STONEHENGE/Index

4- sign up for a 'jira' account ( bug and issue tracking system) at
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/STONEHENGE

5- Email both the confluence and jira IDs to [email protected], asking him to enable/activate those IDs
hope that helps,
thanks!

Subject: Metro interns working on Metro-enabled stock trader

hello all,

I mentioned that we will have Metro interns working on a Metro-enabled stock trader.

What do they need to do before they can contribute (e.g., sign contributers agreements, join mailing lists, ...)?

Thanks,
Harold
