The Saint Trinity Church in the village of Gorni Adrovaz near the Serbian city of Aleksinaz, which was built in 1903 in commemoration of Colonel Rayevsky, will be restored by September - the 125th anniversary of the death of the Russian officer who was killed in Serbia's liberation wars against the Turks. RIA Novosti was told about it by a member of the organising committee for the restoration of the church, Dragan Vukovic.
According to him, the restored Saint Trinity Church will be not only an interesting tourist sight. The servicemen from the Russian military contingent of the international peacekeeping forces in Kosovo will be able to visit it.
The restoration project is financed by the Russian government and Russian sponsors.
The main works are being done by Russian restorers. "We are working very intensively," the head of the group of restorers, Professor Andrei Kozilo told RIA Novosti. "The restoration of the church, built on the money of the relatives of Rayevsky, is a tribute of respect to our countryman who gave his life for the freedom of our brothers - the Serbs."
